What is Vigil Care?

Vigil care offers presence and support during the last hours of a patient's life. This practice is centuries old, but is not commonly practiced. Some patients have little or no family members nearby to keep vigil. Freudenthal Hospice is the only locally-owned hospice that offers this type of care. We tailor the vigil care to meet the needs and desires of our patients and their families.

Vigil Care May Include:

• Being a calm presence

• Sitting with the dying person and their family

• Talking and answering questions about
  the dying process

• Listening

• Shared silence

• Reading of inspirational text or scripture

• Playing soft music
