End of Life Doula

What is an End of Life Doula?

Freudenthal End of Life Doulas enrich the dying experience for patients, family members and friends, while strengthening the relationship between medical (the doctors, nurses, social workers) and non-medical support (the family or caretakers). These trained professionals provide assistance and guidance with holistic services to individuals and their families during the patient’s final transition.

Doula-patient relationships engage the difficult and complex emotions while navigating the signs and symptoms of the dying process. A doula's work ranges from logistical planning for the time before, during and after death; conducting rituals or comforting practices; helping the dying person reflect on their life and values; and explaining the bodily functions of dying to caregivers.

Our Certified End of Life Doulas Can:
  • Help create positive, empowering end of life plans

  • Provide spiritual care, psychological and social support

  • Suggest ideas for optimal physical comfort

  • Help plan home vigils

  • Educate patients and families on final planning options
